Challenge #19 Sketch

Have you checked out KL SNS's new Saturday Challenge? Risa has a new sketch for us to try out.

The timing was perfect. I need a baby card. My great nephew Dylan will be born in two weeks. Great nephew ... doesn't that phrase make me seem a million years old? Eek!

The High Hopes stamp Baby Shower was PERFECT! I used my Score-Pal and a Stampin Up punch to faux emboss it and voila! The perfect card to give my niece. Now all I have to do is finish her quilt. Ugh.

There IS a fabulous prize to be won if you whip something fabulous up and post to the site, using Mr. Linky. Head on over now!

Challenge 18: Using Recyclables!!

This was REALLY a challenge for me. How on Earth was I going to use something old and make it fabulous?!! This is the first card I made. I used a scrap of wrapping paper and some old ribbon I found around one of my son's pencil cases. And while he's cute ... I just didn't love him. I showed him to a stamping friend and she said, "Hmmm, there's no pizazz is there?" Exactly!

I think the background overwhelmed the card. It might be better if the ribbon I used was green to mimic Mudzie's gift ... something is needed (let me know if you have suggestions!)

Soooo, back to the drawing board. I started looking around to find something pretty. I liked the kleenex box but ... didn't love the thickness of the cardboard as I worked with it. I looked at the Subway paper from dinner the previous night (the stuff they wrap the sandwiches in ... I had grabbed a clean piece) and thought about a "way" to go card. But discarded the idea when I looked at the paper and saw how thin the paper was. I paused in my thinking process and took a sip from my coffee and that's when it hit me .... the Starbucks container in my hand!!!

This is Coffee Kiki and she's the perfect background to highlight my "recycled" item on the card. So grab some trash. Remember the 4 Rs: reduce, re-use, recycle AND run on over to KL SNS to play in the Saturday Challenge

Supplies:
Card one~ Stamps: High Hopes: Mudzie's Gift Accessories: brads, Deep Red Glass Glitter
Card two~ Stamps: C.C. Designs: Coffee Kiki, SU: Expresso Yourself

Tuesday Morning Sketch #33

I've had some creative problems this week (I may be a wee bit stressed out!). I tried the Monday Mojo Challenge and found that it was a "no-way jose" Mojo Monday. I worked Tuesday and gave up. Apparently it was kinda a "terrible" Tuesday ... but I kept at it and today I've got something to show.

This is for Melissa's Tuesday Morning Sketch. Here is her sketch:

I actually REALLY liked the sketch and tried to follow it as closely as possible (though I just noticed that I missed the center square). Oh well!

I used my newest stamp, Mo Manning's "Fairy". How stinkin' cute is she! The inside of the card says, "Sending wishes and good thoughts your way." I am going to be so sad when this ribbon is gone ... LOVE the color. Darn Stampin Up and their "In-Colors!" :-)

Supplies:
Stamps: Stampavie: Fairy, SU Fancy Flexible Phrases
Accessories: Copics, Circle Nesties, Glitter pen, brads, SU Purely Pom. ribbon

Challenge 17: Black, White and Red all over

Nope, it's not a newspaper ... it's a card! Kathy and the rest of us at KL SNS are challenging you to grab your red, black and white paper and make something fabulous.

In honor of the start of the Olympics and Monday's Presidents Day, I wanted to use something as American as possible. I grabbed American Cowthic from High Hopes. What could be more American than Grant Woods painting honoring the mid-west! I think I've got the Opening Ceremonies on the brain!!

And as soon as I read Kathy's Challenge my thoughts turned immediately to ... cows (yep, cows, NOT valentines) I am a HUGE cow fan when it comes to stamps though not so much for the real thing! Fortunately, High Hopes has a ton of cute cow stamps to turn to when the farming need occurs.

So happy President's Day and Happy Belated Birthday Kristine! Mosey on over to KL SNS shop, and participate in Challenge 17.

Supplies:
Stamps: American Cowthic, High Hopes; SU, On the Farm
Punches: MS Loops, Circle Nestibilities

Challenge 16: Paper Tole

Sweeeeeeeet!

This week's challenge is Paper Tole. You are probably saying to yourself ... what exactly IS Paper Tole.

According to Kristine ... KL SNS resident expert, the "HOW TO" of simple paper tole: A duplicate of an image is stamped on a different paper, colored and carefully cut out. This duplicate is then mounted on top of the original with foam mounts, causing it to be raised (3D) and enhancing the natural shape. This is not simply paper piecing... it's popping parts of the image up higher.

It's been a loooooong time since I've done this and I forgot how much I like the look of this. I paper pieced most of Kiki and then popped her hair, headband and ice cream cone (though it's difficult to see in the picture)

So gather up the supplies and head off to KL SNS to participate in this weeks fun Challenge.

Scrappin N Stampin with ME!!!

I know ... two alien cards in one week, I need to get a grip and expand my horizons! But I really love High Hopes new aliens and dragons. They really are the perfect stamps for boy cards!

This is the gel or water card that I featured in my tutorial on KL SNS. It's been awhile since I've made one and it took me a few tries to get it right! An added bonus for this card is that even with all the tape I used ... the smell of the hair gel permeates the card. It smells great!

If you are curious how to make this little beauty, mosey over to KL SNS and check out the tutorial!

Good Tuesday Morning!

Since KL SNS is sponsoring Melissa's wonderful Tuesday Morning Sketches ... I wanted to post MY version of her sketch.

I used High Hopes' new stamp, Alien Intrigue. Remember that Kelly can order any fabulous stamp you see from the High Hopes on-line catalog but that it does take a while to cross the US/Canada border. I love ALL their stamps. I suspect that eventually I'll have them all!

The inside of the card reads, "It's official, even your germs have germs. Take it easy and get well soon."

So grab your supplies and get going. There are some fabulous prizes waiting for one lucky winner.

Supplies:
Stamps: High Hopes-Alien Intrigue, SU unknown set
Accessories: MS Goo punch, SU circle punches, ribbon, crystal effects, pop dots
